Here's to reality!

(fragment from "The Neighborhood" by Gonçalo M. Tavares)
"Mister Henri said, "If one mixes absinthe with reality, it results in an improved reality. Believe me, my esteemed listeners, when I say that I do not speak from erudition. which I undoubtedly possess in abundance; but no, that's not it. I speak with the voice of experience, my dear compatriots! If it is true that f one mixes absinthe with reality, it results in an improved reality. But it is also true that if one mixes absinthe with reality, it results in an inferior absinthe". "

Rene Magritte - The Victory
Speaking of reality, slightly blurred out after recent nights, Kurosawa showed, in "Rashomon", that we should constantly suspect it, both when others describe it, and when we perceive it. Three participants and an observer describe through flashbacks the same event - in different, contradictory ways.

The trippy hacker series "Mr. Robot" wrapped up its first season with a further, modern declaration of relative reality: "Is any of it real? Look at this! A world built on fantasies! Synthetic emotions in the form of pills, psychological warfare in the form of advertisement, mind altering chemicals in the form of food, brain washing seminars in the form of media, controlled isolated bubbles in the form of social networks. Real? You wanna talk about reality? We haven't had anything remotely close to it since the turn of the century."

Alcoholic tendencies for the sake of better times, human inability to be honest with themselves, and corporate driven product consumption and meaning construction.

Here's to reality!
